The Proven Benefits of Morning Meeting
Why You Should Have Morning Meeting
Morning Meeting is a quick snippet of the morning– 10 to 15 minutes max! – that allows for new skills to be learned and other skills to be reinforced.
It’s also a fun time to engage students together and start the day with excitement!
Skills Learned During Morning Meeting
The different skills learned and practiced during Morning Meeting are endless:
- Speaking and listening
- Social-emotional skills
- Language arts
- Science
- Problem-solving
- Asking and answering questions
- Asking and answering jokes
- Math
- Social skills
Kids learn all these skills and more while also learning about each other in a safe and inviting way.
Successful Classroom Community
The benefits of Morning Meeting are innumerable! Morning Meeting is a great way to build a successful classroom community while ensuring that each student feels heard, valued, and respected. When children feel supported and cared for (by you and their peers), the classroom environment changes in a beautiful way.
It also sets the tone for a positive day with your students! Unfortunately, some kids don’t come to school on the best foot. As the teacher, you can take these few minutes to change the trajectory of the day!
Even if no academic skills were targeted during this time, these reasons alone would be enough to commit to these 10-15 minutes each morning with your students.
